Dr. Mehmet Ataman
Personal
Born in 1961, Dr. Ataman graduated from Ankara Science High School in 1978 and completed his medical education at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, receiving his MD in 1984.
Medical Career
After serving as a primary care physician from 1984 to 1986, he trained as a resident at the Department of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery of Hacettepe University from 1986 to 1990. He was appointed Lecturer in the same department in 1990 and continued his academic post until 1993, when he left the university at his own request to enter private practice.
Academic Life
Unwilling to break from academia despite a busy practice, he has taught part-time at the Department of Business Administration of Middle East Technical University (METU) since 2001, lecturing on "Managerial Judgement & Decision Making" and "Negotiation". He received the METU Prof. Dr. Mustafa N. Parlar Foundation Educator of the Year Award in the 2002–2003 academic year.
Management
He completed the Certificate Program in Advanced Management Studies at METU in 1996, followed by executive education programs at The Wharton School, Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, Babson College and Harvard University. He earned the Kellogg Executive Scholars — Certificate of Professional Achievement in General Management, and has held senior management positions in healthcare companies and private hospitals.
Hobbies
His most notable hobby is the maintenance and repair of fine watches. He has completed various watchmaking courses at WOSTEP in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and at the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute (AWCI); his work can be followed at www.saatcidoktor.com. He is also engaged in analogue and digital photography — particularly street photography — developing and enlarging his own film.

He is married with two children, and speaks English and French.
